Silent Chain Timing Systems

As the innovator of silent chain technology, Morse TEC continues to lead the industry in silent chain development. With over 25 silent chain systems currently in production worldwide, our chains offer the best in class elongation, durability, NVH and value along with increased bearing area for arm and guide contact. Recent developments include:

• Smaller Pitch Design (6.35mm – 8mm) – better NVH and package fit.

• Hard Pin Design (Vanadium Carbide) – improved elongation for severe applications

• Stamping and Pin Process Improvements (Including Standardization) – Improved costs

Variable Camshaft Timing Systems

Morse TEC offers both Cam Torque Actuated (CTA)™ and Torsional Assist (TA)™ Phaser technologies to achieve reliable Variable Cam Timing on a variety of engines, especially those using overhead cams. By allowing the camshaft to be phased relative to the crankshaft while the engine is running, VCT gives the engine designer added flexibility over a conventional fixed timing drive system.

Morse TEC Cam Torque Actuated (CTA)™ Phaser Benefits Over Oil Pressure Actuated Phaser Include:

• Very low oil consumption – Larger oil pump not required for CTA phaser
• Less susceptible to oil aeration due to lower oil consumption
• Fast actuation rates at idle speeds down to 500 RPM (150°/sec)
• Fast actuation rates at low oil pressure (5 psi, 150°/sec)
• Lower emissions
• Minimal or no changes to cylinder head and block
• Actuation during cranking (move back to base timing while starting)
• Low oscillations at hot idle conditions
• Adapts to existing oil pressure actuated phaser control system
• Single oil passageways to phaser on cam for CTA
• Greater than 60° range of authority
• Less sensitive to oil temperature and pressure variation

Morse TEC Torsional Assist (TA)™ Phaser Benefits Over Oil Pressure Actuated Phaser Include:

• Proprietary phaser technology that integrates with a variable force solenoid control
• Requires less than half the amount of oil flow as an Oil Pressure Actuated phaser
• Faster actuation rate at low pressure conditions
• Cam torsionals are used to assist the actuation at low speed and oil pressure is used to help move the phaser at higher speeds (unique to the industry)
